GROUPER

GROUPER FOCUS GROUPS

Focus Groups are small groups that focus on a specific content area. We cycle through two themes each year: Math and Literacy

Deb's Focus Group

Response Writing:

Citing Sources, Textural Evidence, and Opinion Writing, all wrapped up with fiction!

Meet's in the Office, 9:35-10:35

So far, we looked at a response to Frank Stein's article "A Big Pain in the Neck" about whether  monster neck bolts are outdated or still culturally relevant, and we will take a whack at strengthening a first draft response to Dr. Ack U. La's essay "Night Life," arguing that vampires offer humans a way out of a dreary, brutish existence.

Wonderful Writers with Joy

9:35 - 10:35, Classroom A

3/6: Students used online resources to gather facts to add to their essays and began rough draft.

2/27: Students continued planning their Persuasive Essays and began writing them based on an issue important to them.

2/20: Students picked an issue to develop into an Opinion/Persuasive Essay.  They started with a planning page and are in the process of developing their essay using some guidelines.  We will continue working on these in the weeks to come.

See past weeks' summaries on Joy's page.

Critical Thinkers and Writers, with Joy

11:10 - 12:10, Classroom A

3/6: Students used online resources to gather facts to add to their essays and began rough draft.

2/27: Students continued planning their Persuasive Essays and began writing them based on an issue important to them.

2/20: Today students used a Persuasive Essay planning page to help them organize their opinion essays by adding reasons and details.  We will continue refining these over the next several weeks.

Please see past weeks' summaries on Joy's page.
