Showcase/Teambuilding is usually the last Wednesday of the month from 12:45 - 1:30!

Showcase is an opportunity for students to showcase something they have done, made, learned, shared with their peers.

GROUPER FOCUS GROUPS

Focus Groups are small groups that focus on a specific content area. We cycle through two themes each year: Math and Literacy

  

Grouper Math Focus Group 1 with Joy

This group meets 9:35-10:35, in classroom A.

Happy New Year!  Our last 2 math classes will be spent working/playing through some juicy logic puzzles and growing our brains!

Please come to the Math Festival on 1/16 to see all of the Math we've done this semester! 

12/12: Reviewed X, +, - w/fractions and played fraction game.

12/5: More adding fractions, finding common denominators and lowest common denominator. More of the same on 12/12.

11/28: Today we reviewed multiplication of fractions and reducing fractions.  I introduced addition of fractions and finding common denominators.  We will practice this again next week.

Grouper Math Focus Group 2 with Joy

Please come to the Family Math Festival on Wed, 1/16 to see all of the Math we've done this year!

12/12: Used coins to learn fractions, decimals and percents then played a game called "Match My Part" where students matched percents, fractions and decimals.

12/5: More adding fractions, setting up table of common denominators, least common denominator.  More of this on 12/12.

Visual Math Puzzles and Games 

This group meets 9:35–10:30 in the office with Deb

We've been reinforcing the connection between percents, fractions, and decimals through games and inquiry.

We did origami: 

We did some origami. Here's a Ted Talk about the math of origami. The movie Between the Folds is another treasure trove.  We made a balloon and might next make a jumping frog.

  

SCIENCE WITH MARY

1/9  We reviewed the atom structure of the first eighteen elements and looked at the patterns that exist.  We started to look at compounds and hinting about chemical bonding.

The Inquiry Groups for the fall are:

Pounce (card game), Magic (card game), Drawing, Inquiry meets weekly from 12:45 - 1:30 except on the last Wednesday of the month which is Showcase.

Teen Club

Teen Club * February 6

Neptune’s Kingdom 2:00 to 4:30 pm

We will leave from school on February 6 @ 2:00 pm and head over to Neptune’s Kingdom for miniature golf, laser tag, and arcade games. Bring $20 and a personal snack. Pick up outside Neptune’s Kingdom is at 4:30. I can give some students a ride back to school, upon request. Drivers needed. Sign up in the office

Leadership Club

We will continue our weekly meetings
on Wednesdays 1:30 to 2:30. We will work on our

special projects this month and complete some community service on our campus.
