GROUPER

Wonderful Writers with Joy

9:35 - 10:35, Classroom A

4/24: Everyone edited their essays and put the finishing touches on their projects.  We will share these with the whole class at the Author's Tea on our last day of school, May 22.  Please come!

May: Poetry and free choice writing.

3/20 - 4/17: Everyone is working hard on their Persuasive Essays and some great thinking is happening. Students are analyzing information and using it to support their opinion  statements.  They are learning to site their sources and include information in their own words.  We will continue working on these over the next few weeks as students complete their rough drafts, edit with me, and revise if necessary.  I'm very proud of the hard work students are doing!

Focus Groups are small groups that focus on a specific content area. We cycle through two themes each year: Math and Literacy

Deb's Focus Group

Response Writing:

Citing Sources, Textural Evidence, and Opinion Writing, all wrapped up with fiction!

Meet's in the Office, 9:35-10:35

So far, we looked at a response to Frank Stein's article "A Big Pain in the Neck" about whether  monster neck bolts are outdated or still culturally relevant, and we will take a whack at strengthening a first draft response to Dr. Ack U. La's essay "Night Life," arguing that vampires offer humans a way out of a dreary, brutish existence.
