Parent Survey Results 17/18

Thank you to all who participated in our recent Parent Survey. The results have shown that the majority of parents value our community, the consistent class days, and the opportunity for students to be together and to learn how to work together in a group. Activities like SPECTRA classes and after school clubs were essential and monthly field trips and family nights were rated as highly important. The theater program summary showed that most of the students had a positive experience. Literacy and Math Focus Groups were considered to have been beneficial to most students in regards to improving skills and/or attitude about the subject. We were excited to see that almost every participant noted that they use the website to some capacity. Suggestions about student contact lists, clarifying the play options, website changes, and support needed in reading, writing and math next year were also mentioned. The staff reviewed all the survey information and discussed strategies to address the areas needing improvement. Please join me in acknowledging the staff for the great effort and time it takes to evaluate these results and explore what we can do to improve our offerings while maintaining what you already value. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated teachers at Ocean Alternative.

Escrip for Schools

Escrip is an easy way to raise money for our school.  All you have to do is go to escrip.com and assign your Safeway or Vons purchases to Ocean Alternative Education Center. You also need to renew your membership each year.  If you have family members out of the area, there are many other merchants that partner with escrip.  That's all it takes!

TA resources - hover over this tab-click on Resources-Practice & training tests. Scroll down page to find grade and test. It gives the answers and/or rubrics used to grade questions. Use the 2014 answers.

The tests themselves are personalized because the test is adaptive, meaning that the questions they pose are dependent on the accuracy of the previous answers—they'll select the next question based on the answer to the current question, selecting either more basic or more advanced questions, adapting to the student.

The practice tests are personalized because you can get the answers and sit together to see what's on the test, to help them to understand the problems. You won't get a report of the practice test, so this is the way to know how it's going for your child, or for you, should you opt to try out the test yourself!
